Only certain absences are considered excused per state Education Code, such as: student illness, quarantine, medical appointment, funeral services of immediate family, jury duty, or lack of immunization.
If your child is absent from school, please call the Attendance Office at (415) 759-2700, Extension 3121. The parent/guardian must also send a note to school with the child or fax the note to (415)242-2587.
The note must include all of the following for the verification of the absence to take place:
- the child's name
- their homeroom
- the dates of the absences (please state if your child was out the entire day or which specific periods they missed)
- reason for absence
- parent/guardian's signature
The automatic autodial will call the student's home (in three languages) to report that the student was absent from school, whether or not the parent/guardian has called the Attendance Office.
Upon returning to school, the student must submit the note from home to the Attendance Office where a Readmit Form will be issued. The student has 48 hours to show the official Readmit Form to his/her teacher(s) to verify that the absence is legitimate. Readmits are given out ONLY during lunch and after school in the Attendance Office (Room 121).
If a student is out of school for 5 days or more, a doctor's note is required.
