Mr. Max Van Engers

A photo of Mr. Max Van Engers

First, I am thrilled to teach students, my favorite job of course! I teach out of both the ESL and English departments, as I begin my third year of full-time public-school teaching at ALHS. I was born in San Francisco and grew up outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania close to many colleges and universities like Villanova, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Temple, Drexel, Rosemont, St. Josephs, LaSalle, and Penn.

I returned to SF in 1996 to attend college at CCSF and SFSU, two great institutions to study and learn. Regarding how I prefer to structure the learning atmosphere of the classroom, I like to balance it through student-led analysis, group work, teacher-led lecture, and student presentations.

I try my best to prepare for my teaching everyday, and I expect my students to prepare themselves to learn everyday.
