COURSE SYNOPSISCOURSE TITILE: Math Expl/Algebra TEACHER: P. Chew Room 103
TEXTBOOK: Merrill Algebra One by Fostor, Rath, and Winters and other supplementary materials.
COURSE HIGHLIGHTS: This is a tri-semester Algebra course. Its objective are to:
Review basic math skills:
Emphasize understanding mathematics;
Develop problem solving skills;
Follow the major concepts taught in the standard Algebra 1 course as mandated by the California Mathematics Content Standards (see attachment) at a slower pace.
ASSIGNMENTS, TESTS, AND PROJECTS:
Homework will be assigned daily;
Quizzes and tests will be given on a regular basis;
Projects will be done as needed.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Every student must bring their textbook and all necessary materials to class;
Keep all work in a binder or notebook;
Follow all school rules;
Cooperate with the teacher.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Be in school everyday and on time to classes;
5 cuts per month will be put on the cut list and excluded from all extracurricular activities (3 tardies = 1 cut).
GRADING POLICY:
Projects and homework will account for 1/3 of the grade;
Quizzes and tests will account for 2/3 of the grade;
Late and make up work will be accepted, if excused.
